History

Pousada Tia Helena

Pousada Tia Helena in Praia do Forte Bahia began its activities in 1990 as a restaurant, run by an authentic native woman who enchanted everyone.

In 1992 Tia Helena started building the inn here in Praia do Forte, one room at a time due to the little investment she could make. Little by little Aunt Helena became known for her hospitality.

In 2000, Pousada Tia Helena in Praia do Forte already had 8 suites in a very familiar environment. In 2007, with 17 suites, it continued to maintain its best references, impeccable cleanliness and regional breakfast.

In 2015, Pousada Tia Helena in Praia do Forte continued to grow, now with 20 suites with the option of air conditioning or ceiling fans. The second generation of the family continues its legacy, as Aunt Helena left this world leaving her usual joy to infect guests. The whole world has already stayed with Aunt Helena.

Location: just 3 minutes (walking) from the beach, natural pools, Projeto Tamar, restaurants and shops in general, in other words, we are in the heart of the village!

I spent my honeymoon at the Tia Helena guesthouse and loved it. The breakfast and the proximity to the attractions of Praia do Forte are the most positive points of the inn. The rooms are simple but clean and pleasant. I will be back!

I stayed at Tia Helena and will return. The inn is simple but has different types of rooms. The breakfast is very good and the girls at the service are very attentive. The guesthouse is central, close to everything!

The best time to go

The best time to go

The coast of Bahia is sunny practically all year round and Praia do Forte is no different, but you can avoid visiting between May and July – the rainiest time in the region. Apart from these months, visitors can choose any date with peace of mind, as they will almost always find good weather.

The Castle and the Village

The Castle and the Village

One of the main tourist attractions in Mata de São João is the Casa da Torre de Garcia D'Ávila, the first Portuguese fortification in Brazil, considered the country's medieval castle. The name was given in honor of the right-hand man of governor-general Thomé de Souza, who started building the castle in the 16th century. The fortress was used until the mid-1800s as a form of defense for the region. The ruins, which are 3 km from the village, were transformed into a museum and are very visited, a great treat for those who enjoy historical and cultural tourism.

The Village of Praia do Forte

The Village of Praia do Forte

The village of Praia do Forte itself is quite charming and has little shops for those who want to buy souvenirs. Or even bars and restaurants to drink and eat after a tiring day in the sun at the beach. For those who like nightlife, the best thing to do is choose one of the many bars in the middle of the action, especially on Avenida ACM, and stop for a beer or caipirinha while enjoying the summer and coastal atmosphere. There are still nightclubs on the main street for those who prefer more excitement.
